Out of the Book, Volume 3: State by State, A Panoramic Portrait of America
7:00 PM Missoula Public Library
Description:
Join Fact & Fiction and the Missoula Public Library in a screening of “Out of the Book, Volume 3: State by State, A Panoramic Portrait of America” on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in the library’s large meeting room. This third installment resurrects a project from the 1930s, when the WPA created the Federal Writers' Project, commissioning America's best writers to describe their states. The film stars many of the book's most prominent contributors, including Anthony Bourdain, Myla Goldberg, Susan Orlean, and David Rakoff among others, and will be screened in upwards of 100 cities and towns around America as the 2008 election approaches, serving as a catalyst for powerful conversation and personal connection in communities large and small. Out of the Book first came to Missoula in June 2007 with Ian McEwan’s “On Chesil Beach,” and later with David Halberstam’s “The Coldest Winter.” If anyone attending the program needs special assistance, please provide advance notice by calling 721-BOOK (2665).
