SUMMARY:Protect Yo\'Self: Girls Defense Training
DESCRIPTION:*For Missoula girls ages 14-19*<br />

YWCA GUTS! high school participants will be trained by a local self-defense instructor in order to assist in leading the community training. These girls will lead both a discussion and training of sexual assault awareness, safety and prevention. <br />
<br />
In light of the recent media coverage of alleged sexual assaults involving University students, we would like to focus part of our efforts on prevention. The YWCA believes that ending rape and assault will happen only when women are no longer asked to limit their behavior because of the existence of rape and instead perpetrators are held accountable for rape. However, we also believe it\'s important to offer the skills necessary for young women to protect themselves, to prevent assault, and to (if necessary) fight back. Martial arts and self-defense training has been shown to increase self-confidence - our intention is to raise the self-confidence of young women, which in turn will hopefully aid in preventing future sexual assault and rape.<br />
