Description:
The University of Montana Department of Drama/Dance is pleased to offer The Merry Wives of Windsor, Shakespeare’s timeless comedy. The Merry Wives of Windsor runs in the Montana Theatre of the Performing Arts and Radio/Television Center on campus December 2-6 at 7:30 p.m. A Saturday matinee will be performed at 2:00 p.m. on December 6.
Disreputable, conceited Sir John Falstaff arrives in the bucolic English town of Windsor with empty pockets. He attempts to seduce two wealthy married women, but his plans are foiled when the matrons join forces to plot his comeuppance. Meanwhile, young Anne Page dreams of marriage to a lovely young man her parents think unsuitable due to his limited financial resources. Schemes, disguises, and mistaken identities set the stage for true love's triumph in this play, which, according to legend, was commissioned by Queen Elizabeth I.
The play’s director, Michael Butterworth, is a third-year MFA candidate in the Department of Drama/Dance; this production serves as his Final Creative Project. He is joined by a dynamic design team made up of Drama/Dance faculty, a first-year MFA design candidate, and undergraduate design/technology students. Expect to be swept away by this funny, sweet, dazzling production.
