Yuletide Stroll of University District Churches Description:
Spend some time on the day after Christmas visiting local churches and seeing and hearing how the Nativity of Jesus is celebrated by our various communities of faith!

Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church is Missoula's only Eastern Orthodox Christian Church. Join us as we sing a few hymns from the Byzantine Liturgical tradition along with a short presentation on Byzantine Music (will repeat approximately every 30 minutes). We will also have some tasty Greek cookies called koulouria for everyone to enjoy as well as a African coffee provided by one of our Ethiopian parishioners.

Christ the King Parish is the Newman Center for The University of Montana and is a Catholic parish community. In the addition to our students, we have a large size permanent community. In 2012, A group of persons, noting the large bare walls of the sanctuary, decided to sew/paint/quilt large Nativity hangings to help illustrate Christmas for the children of the parish. A PowerPoint story of the construction of the hangings will be shown, in the back of the church, where cookies and beverages will be served. Live Christmas music will be played on the piano and organ by Teddy Jo Bowers.

First Presbyterian Church was designed by Missoula architect, A. J. Gibson and built in 1915 during the tenure of Reverend John Maclean, the father of Norman Maclean who wrote the widely read "A River Runs Through It." There will be a repeated short program of organ and handbell music between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Holy Spirit Episcopal Church was founded in 1882, and was built at its current site in 1915. Charles J. Connick created the windows; by the end of his life, he had a reputation as " the world's greatest artisan in stained glass." A booklet about the windows will be available at the church. Carols and organ music will be heard throughout the afternoon. There will be a carol sing from 5:10-5:30 pm, bringing the stroll to a close.

St. Paul Lutheran Church--More than to any other individual or group of individuals, St. Paul Lutheran Church--congregation and structure--owes its existence to a small, dedicated group of Norwegian immigrant women. In 1906, these intrepid Missoulians established the Lutheran Ladies' Aid Society, whose primary goal was to raise money to build a Norwegian Lutheran church. Though their first, small chapel was constructed in 1919, they continued, throughout the first half of the 1920s, to hold bake sales, ice cream socials, auctions, and bazaars, and to serve meals from a tent each summer at the Western Montana Fair. Join us to tour the church sanctuary, all decked out in Christmas finery, the final fruits of these early twentieth-century labors.

University Congregational Church will have organ and piano music during the Yuletide Stroll. Come see the beautiful trees and other decorations of the season.
