This class is for anyone who ever watched Fred Astaire or Savion Glover, Eleanor Powell or Michelle Dorrance, and thought to themselves, "Good gracious, that looks fun!" Tap is a diverse and malleable dance form, involving balance, power, and precision. This class aims to allow complete newbies to stomp and shuffle, while continuing participants explore rhythm and technique. Class will start with a brief warm-up incorporating basic skills, similar from week to week. We'll continue into larger movements and combinations, with a new short classic combination every week as well as building longer combinations over 4 to 6 weeks. Expect eclectic music, from indie jazz to latin beats to hip hop--whatever has a clear and interesting rhythm! Shoes with aluminum taps are preferred, but please don't let lack of shoes keep you from ballchanging along with us! A nice hard sole will work to start. We will explore all styles of tap and percussive dance, from east coast hoofin' to Rockette lines to full body step dance.
