Tamarack Grief Resource Center is hosting an Art Show and Auction at The M Store at First Friday on December 7, 2012.

Local artist Kirsten Pabst will be showing "Condolences", a series depicting her personal grief journey after the sudden loss of her young son, Sam. Kirsten Pabst is a Montana-based artist whose day job is a criminal defense attorney.

The "Condolences" series is a collection of assemblages, each capturing the essence of that moment when one human reaches out to another who is grieving the death of a loved one. After the loss of her 12 year-old son a few years ago, the series emerged as an expression of frustration over the awkward and sometimes insidious comments made by those equipped with uplifting intention, but lacking mindfulness or tact. Some of the early works are riddled with anger or dripping with sarcasm. Since then, the series has evolved to display genuine gratitude for kindness and support, even if the delivery of the condolences is awkward or the content cannot be reconciled with the laws of physics. Many of the source comments, captured in the assemblages, are rote, avoidant; others poignant and sincere. Some are funny while others are just plain tacky. All of them are sad.

In addition, an Art Sale and Auction will showcase works by area youth and adults illuminating love, grief, hope and remembrance to this benefit for grief programs in our region. This event honors grief as a uniquely dynamic and active process.

Proceeds from this evening's sales will benefit Tamarack Grief Resource Center. Specializing in bereavement camps, Tamarack Grief Resource Center strengthens and honors individuals and families throughout their journey with grief.
