"Tarzan, The Stage Musical" with MCT Description:
The Missoula Community Theatre is excited to welcome you to the jungle, as it brings Tarzan the Stage Musical to life at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts. Based on the animated Disney film, Tarzan promises to be an action-packed treat for the entire family.
Raised by gorillas, Tarzan's love for his ape family and the jungle home he's always known is challenged by his new-found love of the beautiful Jane and her strange, human ways.

A show that requires more than half of its cast to move fluidly through trees and vines like gorillas inspired director Joseph Martinez and choreographer Heather Adams to reach out to the Missoula community for technical guidance. Mismo Gymnastics, Roots Acro Sports Center, and Moksha Aerial Studio Collective (MASC) happily obliged. Martinez noted that these gyms coordinated rehearsal space and provided equipment for the set, as well as "overall advice regarding all things athletic." They also helped cast 12 trained gymnasts in the show. Rocky Mountain Rigging has prepared the MCT stage so the cast can safely perform the jungle acrobatics. "Truly a community theatre experience," comments Martinez.

Tarzan is a show about community and family, so it's fitting that there's a family within the cast. Dylan Wright is playing the ape patriarch, "Kerchak," while his 10 year-old daughter, Evie, is portraying "young Tarzan." Dylan says that although Kerchak realizes Tarzan is an innocent child, Tarzan is also one of the most dangerous creatures of all: a human. Kerchak decides he must banish young Tarzan to protect his ape family. Dylan has found that because Evie is his real-life daughter, bringing this conflict to life on stage has extra dimensions of struggle and realism. But he's been relishing every moment. "One of the things I love most is driving home after rehearsal and hearing her bubble over with excitement as she recaps the night's events," he says with dad's proud smile.

In addition to the highly-physical aspects of this emotionally moving but fun show, audiences will also enjoy the music and lyrics by Phil Collins, including the beautiful "You'll Be in My Heart." The music direction for MCT's production of Tarzan has been provided by Roxann Jackson.

The performance dates are Oct. 20-23 and 26-30, 2016. All performances will take place at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts.
