Navaratri Goddess celebration: Puja & sacred music! Description:
Maha Navratri Goddess Festival & Vegetarian community Feast!

All are welcome! We are pleased to present a public Maha Navratri puja/homa and feast this Thursday evening, Sept. 21, gathering at 7:45 pm, to celebrate the many-aspected Goddess Shakti (Devi/Durga), who is always in motion delivering moksha: spiritual liberation. It is that time of year to pay off whatever debts we can, and to take stock of our households. For many natural animists, it is an auspicious time to spruce up the home and buy necessary clothing and amulet jewelry. It is a time to dance and sing as we celebrate life.
If you are a lover of the Great Goddess and would like to celebrate this matriarchal Hindu holiday with the temple, please join us for this powerful puja and vegetarian feast to follow. All are welcome. Please note that this kickoff celebration traditionally occurs at nighttime, hence the 7:45 gathering time and nighttime feast.
Throughout Navaratri, different aspects of the Great Goddess are honored during each day of the 9-day festival. Each Shakti invoked imparts Devi with an increasing amount of power to overcome the shadowy evils. She is here with cumulative strength to help us fight our demons this autumn.
The color for the first day of the festival is yellow: each day of the festival has a different auspicious color), so feel free to wear some of this color if you fancy '
Kirtan (sacred song) will be hosted by the talented and devoted Cami Cote. Blessings and gratitude to Cami for facilitating this traditional form of Bhakti Yoga!
What to bring: This is a no-cost event, but any donations are greatly appreciated to help offset food costs and labor. Additionally, we suggest that you bring flowers (this is a big flower holiday!) as well as any organic fruits, sweets, snacks, and anything else you feel inspired to share.
Please note that you will be able to order Indian sweets care packages crafted by HPS Estha McNevin, to celebrate this annual season of Indian cultural immersion!
A separate email detailing these care packages will be sent soon.
