The Clay Studio of Missoula is proud to present a solo exhibition featuring the sculptural ceramic works of current artist in residence Crista Ann Ames.

Crista's figurative works have undergone a great deal of evolution and transformation during the past two years of her residency. Though she has continued to investigate large scale forms, the works have stylistically become more abstract. The gestures and simplified approach gives increased emphasis on gesture, form, and color. The absence of clear facial features and details invites the viewer to engage with the expression suggested within the exaggerated and dynamic sculptural works.

Crista attended Washington State University where she obtained her BFA in Ceramics with a minor in Art History. She attended Utah State University for Post Baccalaureate studies in Ceramics, and completed the MFA program at the University of Montana in 2015. She was at the Archie Bray Foundation for a summer residency in summer 2015. Currently, Crista finishing a two-year residency at the Clay Studio of Missoula, and will be a long-term artist in residence at Red Lodge Clay Center Starting this Fall.

Crista Ann Ames: Somewhere, Nowhere will be on display at the Clay Studio of Missoula from September 1-29, 2017, with an opening on Friday, September 1, from 5:30-9pm. Gallery events are free and open to the public.
