Reception- Vessel: Recent Works by Seth Charles Description:
The Clay Studio of Missoula is proud to present a solo exhibition featuring the ceramic works of recent artist in residence Seth Charles. Seth's primary philosophical influences are the Japanese concepts of wabi and sabi that view imperfection and irregularity as forms of beauty. It is easy to find geological analogies in his work: rock fissures, lichen, moss, eroding wood, and dry lake beds to name a few. It is through an understanding of form, function, and the vocabulary of pottery that the work created can be viewed simultaneously as an abstract object and a functional vessel.

Seth received an MFA in Ceramics from Central Washington University in 2015. In 2005, he completed a BFA at University of North Florida. He was the Woodfire Artist in Residence at the Clay Studio of Missoula from 2015-2016, and is currently an artist-in-residence at the Morean Center for Clay and teaches at Florida State College.

Vessel: Recent Works by Seth Charles will be on display at the Clay Studio of Missoula from July 7-28, 2017, with an opening on Friday, July 7, from 5:30-9pm. Gallery events are free and open to the public.
