People's Hearing on the Tongue River Railroad
5:30 PM (America/Denver)
University of Montana
Description:
The Tongue River Railroad is a proposed new rail line in southeastern Montana that would be constructed for the purpose of exporting Montana coal to Asia through Pacific Northwest ports, which would mean more coal trains rumbling through your community. And it's up for public comment.
The Tongue River Railroad can only be built if it uses the power of federal eminent domain to federally condemn up to 90 miles of private land for the sole purpose of exporting coal from southeastern Montana. It's ludicrous to build a new rail line to open a new coal mine in this day and age, when the world is transitioning away from fossil fuels.
We need you to tell the Surface Transportation Board (STB) that coal exports only help Asian economies and giant coal companies while they hurt everyday Americans who have to live with the effects of coal mining and transport.
Come make your voice heard on June 4th at 5:30 pm on the UM campus, in Charles Clapp Building, room 131. Let's tell the Surface Transportation Board that enough is enough, and get rid of this bad idea once and for all.
