This course explores American military culture and the experiences of veterans and their families from the Revolutionary War through today’s conflicts. The course examines the military experience through a brief understanding of the institutions, training, and standards of today’s military. Veterans’ experiences are further explored through historical, literary, and media excerpts from the American Revolution through the current Global War on Terror. Finally, the course delves into how veterans and their families relate to society in the context of physical, psychological, ethical, social, and economic challenges, current societal resources to meet those challenges, and the positive contributions and unique potential of veterans to society.
