Join fiber artist Heidi Zielinski and learn how to design a Strata Art Quilt--a simply pieced long narrow wallhanging using only short strips. Learn about successful use of color and value, creating a balanced design, and selecting fabrics that work together to make an interesting and exciting quilted wallhanging. Quick and easy sewing once you have your design. Tops will be completed in class and will be 8" to 13" wide and 18" to 40" long depending on your design.

Make your pieces more interesting by adding textured fabrics if you like (raw silk, linen, Osnaburg, faux suede, tapestry, etc.), inserting flat piping flanges between strips, or adding applique shapes after you have sewn your strips together. Examples will be shown in class.

Completed top will have small areas for fun and interesting quilting as well as beading and embellishing if you choose. These narrow pieces are easy to maneuver at your sewing machine, so challenge yourself with elaborate quilting designs or some hand stitching/embroidery. Perfect for rows of beaded fringe--and the rows are short!

You will get hints and tips for completing your quilt. We will only complete the top in this class, but the instructor will be happy to help with questions or problems as you finish your Strata Art quilt at home.
