Voices in Contemporary Art: Glenn Adamson
7:00 PM (America/Denver)
Hellgate High School
Description:
Missoula Art Museum (MAM) presents "Voulkos: The Breakthrough Years" by Glenn Adamson as part of the MAM Lecture Series: Voices in Contemporary Art. This event takes place in the auditorium at Hellgate High School; free for MAM members and students, $5 suggested donation for the public.

On the occasion of the exhibition, "Nexus: The Lela and Rudy Autio Family Collection," Adamson will talk about Peter Voulkos' radical departures from precedent in the medium of ceramics, reshaping the possibilities for the discipline, and place his work in contexts of his immediate colleagues, such as Rudy Autio, John Mason, and Ken Price; and more recently by the likes of Arlene Shechet and Annabeth Rosen.

Adamson is Senior Scholar at the Yale Center for British Art and Editor-at-Large of The Magazine Antiques. A curator and theorist who works across the fields of design, craft, and contemporary art, he is former director of New York's Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), and served as head of the research department at London's Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum. His publications include Art in the Making (2016, co-authored with Julia Bryan Wilson); Invention of Craft (2013); Postmodernism: Style and Subversion (2011); The Craft Reader (2010); and Thinking Through Craft (2007), and he is founding co-editor of the academic Journal of Modern Craft. He co-curated "Peter Voulkos: The Breakthrough Years," currently on view at MAD, which is the basis for this lecture.
