This iconic classic of the American musical theatre, West Side Story is a timeless version of the world’s greatest love story. Transporting Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Leonard Bernstein teamed up with newcomer Stephen Sondheim for a Broadway hit. Set in early 1960s New York City, two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence, and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and significant musical dramas of our time.
How it rates: Contains romance with conflicts and violence and tension of street life. Probably not for the youngest of family members.
