China has been increasingly assertive in its contested claim to territorial waters in the South China and East China Seas. At the center of this assertiveness is a desire to expand Chinese influence, secure shipping lanes, exploit potentially lucrative seabed natural resources, and protect maritime military approaches to the Chinese homeland. This lecture explores the potential for future confrontation between China and any one of its maritime neighbors - not to mention the United States - in coming years.
