SlutWalk Missoula
12:00 PM (America/Denver)
University of Montana
Description:
SlutWalk is an internationally held event to protest victim blaming and rape culture. It began in Toronto on April 3rd, 2011. It was initially sparked following a local Police representative'sunacceptable victim blaming and slut-shaming comment that "women can reducetheir risk of sexual assault by not dressing like sluts". SlutWalk has since been held in over 200 cities across the globe. SlutWalk is an opportunity to stand up against victim blaming of survivors of sexual violence and toassert our right to wear what we want, walk where we want, and do what we wantwithout fear of violence, slut-shaming, or victim blaming. Many who participate in this event come scantily clad, butmany also wear sweatpants: the point being that what one is wearing has nothingto do with one being assaulted. We encourage participants to wear clothes that make them feel comfortable. We will be meeting on the University of Montana's campus at the Grizzly Bear statue, from there we will march to the Missoula Courthouse for a rally.
