The University of Montana is pleased to present The Madwoman of Chaillot, a French classic described as "one part fantasy, two parts reason." The Madwoman of Chaillot runs in the Masquer Theatre of the Performing Arts and Radio/Television Center on campus April 5-9, 2017.

Countess Aurelia is an aging idealist who tries to see only the beauty and happiness of the world, but after overhearing the dastardly plans of some Parisian bigwigs, she realizes she and a merry band of outcasts from her neighborhood must take matters into their own hands. A delightful and poetic satire, The Madwoman of Chaillot has been a beloved fixture of world theatre since its premiere in the 1940s; its commentary on the absurdities of rampant capitalism is perhaps more prescient today than ever.

This production marks the first of Theatre & Dance's Studio Series for the season. Studio Series productions incorporate inventive staging and minimal design/technology, so the focus will be placed on the performers and the text. The Madwoman of Chaillot weaves a spell full of humor and benign eccentricity, providing the perfect playground for the actors, stage manager/technician, and Professor of Theatre Randy Bolton, the production's director.

For tickets to The Madwoman of Chaillot, call the UMArts Box Office at 406-243-4581, Tuesday-Friday from noon to 6:00 pm, or order tickets online at www.umt.edu/theatredance!
