all works in this collection were made with rescued, reused, gifted, loaned, inherited, stolen or salvaged materials. no plants, animals or minerals were harmed for the production of art. compilations formed organically, a preference for this scrap of paper beside that one, waiting in the back of a church attic for others to join, or the color of this plant juxtaposed against feathers from this animal. the process was at once carefully orchestrated and beyond control, an analogy to the path we take in all things. the artist hoped to find an old desk fan blade, a large fish mouth and small legos. because these objects did not present themselves, alternative arrangements were made and some pieces failed to come to fruition. this show was meant to be a challenge and a release. above all it was a collaborative effort.

emma camille olson was born and raised in a big backyard on pearl st. in laguna beach, california. several pieces exhibited here began back then, when she walked the coastline looking for soft glass and shells that hermit crabs could no longer use as homes. materials were gathered gradually over the course of twenty some odd years, including the last six she spent backpacking through thirty countries, but primarily during the last three, which she passed with her head in the big sky and her eyes on the western montanan earth. she loves to watch and help things grow-whether gardens, children, programs, music, light or darkness
