Whitewater Raft Guide School
9:00 AM (America/Denver)
Montana River Guides
Description:
April 4-April 8, 2012
Whitewater Raft Guide School.
This is a comprehensive five day guide school. It includes Swiftwater Rescue Technician certification, a twenty-plus hour class designed for professional rescuers, raft guides and whitewater paddlers. It typically consists a half day of classroom instruction followed by two to two and a half days developing and practicing skills on the river. We always modify the class based on the students rescue or paddling experience and background. While the initial emphasis is safety & self rescue, the class offers an in-depth look at reading water, recognizing and avoiding hazards, quick rescue techniques, boat-based rescues, dealing with boat wraps and entrapments, technical rescue systems, and a variety of practical scenarios. We analyze footage of actual river rescues in the classroom and progress from a solid foundation of rescue skills and practice into rescue scenarios on the river. On days four and five you'll be guiding trips on the Blackfoot and Clark Fork Rivers, practicing paddle commands, eddy turns, ferrying, and aggressively maneuvering paddle and oar rafts in whitewater. Expect long, fun, informative days on the river and to leave the class with a foundation of river knowledge and experience that will prepare you to guide whitewater trips. No experience is necessary.
Tuition: $485
