Helping Veterans: The Montana Vet Program
7:00 PM (America/Denver)
REI
Description:
By many, Montana is considered the last good place and while it is well known for beautiful scenery, wild places, and throwback culture it also harbors a more sinister reputation, suicide. Tragically, between 2004 and 2013, 566 veterans committed suicide in Montana. A recent report released by the Department of Veteran Affairs states 20 veterans commit suicide every day in the United States. The mission of the Montana Vet Program's (MVP) is to provide quality recreational activities for veterans with physical, emotional, and psychological challenges to help improve a veteran's quality of life. MVP's concept for healing aid is to take them in groups on Veteran Led Therapeutic Adventure Trips through Montana's iconic wildernesses and National Forest back country areas (e.g. Glacier NP, Missouri River Breaks, Yellowstone NP, and the Absorkee and Bitterroot Mtns.). At the center of these trips is a 75 pound bag, called the "Pig Egg", full of individually named dog tags from the 6,839 men and women who gave their lives serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. MVP believes Montana can help heal our veterans. Please join us and find out how the Montana Vet Program is serving our local veterans. Note: This presentation will be held at REI Missoula.
