Buddhism In A Nutshell

Free Course. This 5 session introductory course provides a general overview of basic Buddhist philosophy and principles for complete beginners, or those with some background in Buddhist thought looking for a more complete understanding. Topics covered include:
- the life of Shakyamuni Buddha and his personal spiritual path
- The Four Noble Truths, Buddha's foundational teaching
- Buddha's teachings in a gradual form for individual practice
- What does it mean to be a 'Buddhist'?
- Different kinds of Buddhism: Theravadan, Mahayana, Vajrayana, Zen, Ch'an, Pure Land, etc.
- Different schools of Tibetan Buddhism: Gelug, Nyingma, Kagyu, and Sakya
Classes take place at 7pm on Monday evenings for 5 weeks from Feb.27- March 27. The course will be facillitated by Osel center members Bill Pfeiffer, Bob Jacobsen, and Colleen Kane. Our facilitators have been fortunate to receive teachings from several established Tibetan and Western teachers and are happy to share their experiences. The class is free of charge.
