Bearing by Kerri Rosenstein
5:00 PM
the brink gallery
With great pleasure, The Brink Gallery announces its grand opening in downtown Missoula, Montana. Envisioned and founded by local artist and art enthusiast, Jennifer Leutzinger, the gallery will feature fresh and deliberate work of emerging and established local, regional and national artists working in the realm of contemporary art. Blending innovation with tradition, exhibits will vary to include work that is experimental and conceptual in nature, visually and intellectually stimulating, playful and sophisticated. The Brink is excited to announce its inaugural exhibition, bearing, with work by Kerri Rosenstein. While Rosenstein’s work tends to vary in form, it is consistently thought-provoking and conceptually meaningful in that it relates to universal themes such as impermanence and transcendence. The visually sparse and subtle bearings drawings pertain finding one’s bearings, a practice of grounding oneself in oneself by examining the spaces in which one exists. Formal in appearance, the drawings are conceptually based in practices of perception and awareness – exploring external space as a means to accessing internal understanding and presence. The drawings portray more a sense of spatial geometry than architectural form: how I visually experience space rather than an accuracy of measurement. They have been made from a sense of intuitional perceived proportion as opposed to being drawn to scale.  - Kerri Rosenstein bearing, will include seven sets of bearings drawings: caldera cabin, caldera studio, moiese cabin, butler creek cabin, wolf street, rock cove, and brink. The drawings are made simply with color pencil on paper. While the drawings have been made over the past two years, showing them for the first time as the inaugural exhibition is more than appropriate – The Brink finding and establishing its own bearings. A newly created space, ripe with potential and without preconceived expectations, the exhibition has been developed to incorporate the gallery and maintain openness in terms of its possibility. Kerri Rosenstein is a Missoula-based artist. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and most recently at the Missoula Art Museum in Missoula, MT; the Holter Art Museum in Helena, MT; Richard Levy Gallery in Albuquerque, NM; and public installations in Miami, FL and Houston, TX. Please join us for the grand opening and a reception with the artist on Friday, March 5th, 5 - 9pm.  For questions, photos or more information please contact the gallery at 406.531.7671 or email Jennifer Leutzinger at jenniferleutzinger@yahoo.com.
