Socially Sensitive Language
6:00 PM (America/Denver)
Dickinson Lifelong Learning Center
Description:
What terms are acceptable and appropriate today, and which are not? In today’s world, many publications, businesses, and nonprofit organizations emphasize the use of unbiased language (known, sometimes derisively, as “political correctness”) in their communications. With our rapidly changing society and language, it can be hard to sort out what are and aren’t socially acceptable, unbiased words and phrases used for various groups of people. This class attempts to help you do that by sorting and answers the need for sensitivity in both professional and personal settings. Handouts include a list of preferred terms.
