Bugs and Brews: Native Bee Diversity in the Northern Bitterroot Valley Description:
What happens when you mix after hours access to the Insectarium, local beers, and a fascinating expert lecturer? You get the Missoula Insectarium’s evening lecture series: “Bugs and Brews”! Our speaker this month is Marirose Kuhlman of MPG Ranch speaking on native bee diversity in the northern Bitterroot Valley.
Marirose has worked as a botanist at MPG Ranch since 2012, where she surveys vegetation, monitors native bees, and hosts an annual citizen-science butterfly count. In 2013, Marirose initiated a long-term bee monitoring program at MPG Ranch. Through this project, she has documented over 200 bee species, and added new species to Montana’s bee species list. In this presentation, Marirose introduces you to our native bee families, and shares field identification clues and insight on when and where to find native bees.
