1:00 PM (America/Denver)
Elks Lodge
Description:
PROPERTY - 4 min
This poignant, award-winning documentary short reveals a day in the life at the National Wildlife Property Repository---a little-known 22,000 square-foot warehouse outside of Denver where wildlife items confiscated at US ports of entry are stored. The Repository currently houses more than one million items. The film is told through the eyes of Doni Sprague, an employee who has worked there for 20 years cataloguing, tagging, bagging and shelving illegal wildlife items on a daily basis.

RAISING THE WORDS - 15 min
After generations of systematic cultural assimilation, the majority of Indigenous languages across Canada are in decline. In light of a building Indigenous political revival, however, language revitalization in many communities is now on the rise. Facing the longstanding stigmatization experienced by their ancestors, an empowered young generation in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory is revitalizing the Mohawk language. RAISING THE WORDS, a short documentary film by Chloe Ellingson, paints a lyrical portrait of six speakers who are a guiding light for a silenced language.

THE HANGING - 15 min
Nineteen-year-old Kirill hangs out on the rooftops of apartment blocks, where his brazen stunts have earned him the nickname "Russian Spiderman."

THE CONFLUENCE - 16 min
This short documentary focuses on the controversial Escalade Development, a proposal which would take a gondola to the bottom of the Grand Canyon where the Colorado and Little Colorado Rivers meet. The confluence is sacred to the Navajo people because their creation story teaches that this is where people first emerged into our world. As the film follows a group of Navajo activists fighting to protect this sacred site, we explore how places like the Grand Canyon shape human identities in profound ways.

GUIDED - 19 min
GUIDED profiles the gentle spirit of Maine Wilderness Guide Ray Reitze. Ray shares his philosophy of how to live in harmony with the outdoors to the next generation of guides while grappling with his own mortality as he transitions from the physical world of guiding to a more spiritual understanding of nature and our ephemeral place in it.

WILDLAND - 26 min
Three juvenile inmates partake in a firefighting program for young offenders. But a tragedy tests their resolve both on and off the fire-line.
