BSDFF - Shorts Block 14 Description:
Water Is Life: The Standing Rock Sioux Nation is struggling to survive. As they try to protect the water source and the sacred lands of their small nation, the Sioux Nation finds their heritage under attack. WATER IS LIFE explores this story through animation and a narrative by the Standing Rock Chairman.

SAFSTOR: Contrasting the Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant with the memories of local residents of the partial meltdown on March 28, 1979, SAFSTOR explores archival materials and the landscape around the plant, begging the question of, “What will happen to these plants as they become decommissioned?”

Person of the Forest: In the vanishing lowland rainforests of Borneo research is underway to uncover and understand the unique cultural behaviors of wild orangutans. Photographer Tim Laman, researcher Cheryl Knott and young explorer Robert Suro shed new light on the similarities between ourselves and our ancient ancestors before it’s too late for our fellow fuzzy primates.

Walk on the Mountain: Junior Walk is an anti-coal activist in West Virginia and he makes it his job to expose the environmental and economic distress caused by coal fields.
Following Junior, WALK ON THE MOUNTAIN tells the story of the people living in southern West Virginia suffering from the decline of the coal industry and the every day battle they fight to feed their families, as they struggle with deciding where they stand - with Junior or with the coal companies.

Rockpile: Retired teacher Tom Whelan investigates the shadowy history of his rural Missouri community, unprepared for the information he’s about to unfold. ROCKPILE follows Tom and the story of a looming structure in town that holds a mysterious past.
