Description:
International Cup 2012
Opening reception February 3, 5:30-9pm.
Exhibition runs February 3-24, 2012

International Cup 2012, sponsored by the Clay Studio of Missoula, is an exhibition showcasing ceramic work that explores the infinite possibilites of the idea of a cup. Juried by accomplished potters and cup makers, Jayson Lawfer and Emily Schroeder Willis, 40 cups have been selected from the 175 applicants from all around the world. Accepted cups are from the United States, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. Juror Schroeder Willis commented that she and Lawfer chose what they felt to be, "the most innovative and aesthetically interesting cups. Jayson and I come from a different point of views, which we both felt would make this show particularly well rounded. The battles that ensued over certain pieces was often times humorous and in the end we both had to challenge our own aesthetic perspective to look at a certain pieces with a new set of eyes and truly listen to the other person and see the beauty they found in it." Lawfer thanks all of the applicants for, "spending the time and energy to create handmade objects. The life of a potter is much more difficult now than it was twenty or thirty years ago. I admire each of you for pursuing this difficult career path and I know that each cup you make will have an impact on someone's life. Somewhere."

The exhibition will be on display at the Clay Studio of Missoula from February 3-24 2012, with an opening on Friday, February 3, from 5:30-9pm. Gallery events are free and open to the public.
